Oh wow do I hate diving deep into that UCLA pool.

It’s missing a LOT of parts, especially in the secondary. Not having star pass rusher Laiatu Latu doesn’t help the D, and none of that should matter too much when going for the under.

The defense that was No. 1 in the Pac-12, sixth in the nation in sacks, and most importantly, No. 1 in the country against the run should be able to hold up against a Boise State team that has to run well to win.

A bit more on this all in a later pick, but for now, this is all about Taylen Green. The amazing running backs made the Boise State offense go, but Green was the catalyst to the late surge with what he was able to do taking off at quarterback … and now he’s an Arkansas Razorback.

CJ Tiller is the freshman quarterback who’ll get the start for the Broncos. We’re talking about the deep cuts, third string, throw him out there and see what happens starter. And as for the losses on the UCLA D? That’s not necessarily the worst thing in a bowl game.

The guys who want to go to the NFL play bowl games not to get hurt, and maybe show one or two flash plays just to do it. The starters are still Power Five talents, and they’ll go all out showing why they need to go into spring ball with a chance to start.

48.5 isn’t a lot - especially for a Boise State team that hit 30 in every game but three - but UCLA allowed fewer than 20 points in every game but three.

I’ll say this again in a moment. If the true freshman is solid and the Boise State running backs - if they really do suit up - do what they do and this gets into a bit of an offensive show, tip your cap, and on to the next bowl.

By the way, the first two LA Bowls? 29-6 and 24-13.
