Texas Tech (2-0) vs. Arizona (1-1) Game Preview
Why Texas Tech Will Win
The offense is rolling, and it hasn’t needed to unleash the passing game to its full capacity.
The Red Raiders were able to bomb away against Montana State to kick things off, and last week they came up with a short-range day to keep dinking and dunking on UTEP to death in an easy win. For an Arizona defense that got hammered by the Hawaii midrange passing game to start the season, it’s going to be under fire from the start.
Along with coming up with six takeaways, the one thing the Wildcats were able to do well defensively against the Rainbow Warriors was come up with a third down stop. And then came last week against Northern Arizona, and the D couldn’t seem to get off the field.
It was a blowout, and the stress was effectively gone after the first half, but Arizona still allowed the Lumberjacks to convert 9-of-15 third down tries.
Texas Tech converted 8-of-14 chances against UTEP .
Why Arizona Will Win
Montana State and UTEP. On the one hand, Texas Tech got in two light scrimmages to get the parts in place. On the other hand, it was Montana State and UTEP. This isn’t exactly a battle-tested Red Raider team.
Lost in the strange start to the season has been a fantastic first two games from Khalil Tate, who hit 65% of his passes for close to 500 yards eight five touchdowns and two picks. He didn’t run much against Northern Arizona because he didn’t have to, but he showed off his wheels against Hawaii.
Texas Tech hasn’t had to deal with any sort of offensive threat yet, and now it’s going to have to prove it can stop the run. The Wildcats went off on NAU for 431 yards with big dash after big dash, and now they’re going to put the pressure on Red Raider defensive front.

What’s Going To Happen
We still don’t quite know what Texas Tech is, but expect the offense to work against the Arizona defense that’s been way too leaky in the secondary. The Wildcat offense will crank it up, too, in a wild and crazy shootout that should see several different momentum swings. At home, the Wildcats will pull out a thriller with a ground game that will eat up the untested Red Raider D in chunks.
