Why Oklahoma Will Win

The Sooners struggled, sputtered, and coughed coming off the big win over Texas, but they still got the job odd against UCF. Even when they didn’t play their best, they were still able to keep things moving.

The O is balanced and explosive, and it’s not even unleashing the ground game as much as it probably could and should - it’s too easy to rely on Dillon Gabriel and the solid passing attack.

Kansas has the offense to keep up the pace, but it got stoned by Texas, lost to Oklahoma State two weeks ago partly because of the two turnovers, and now it has to deal with the pressure from a Sooner defensive front that’s great behind the line.

Why Kansas Will Win

Kansas has to be perfect to pull this off, and it might be able to do that.

The team doesn’t get flagged - just 29 penalties on the year - it owns third downs offensively, and turnovers usually aren’t an issue.

The defense is the defense. It’s never going to be a rock, and it’s going to get up 500 yards and 30 points. However, even with Jalon Daniels still out, the offense should be solid with Jason Bean coming off a 410-yard passing day against the Cowboys, and with two great performances over the last two seasons to draw on.

The place is sold out, it’s the big early game of the morning, and it should be one of the most eclectic atmospheres of the weekend. The Jayhawks have to feed off of all of it because …

Did Oklahoma get it out of its system, or is last week the real Oklahoma?

The Texas game is always its own separate thing. The pressure is always higher, teams play over their heads, and it sometimes doesn’t quite represent just how good a team is.

Oklahoma doesn’t really have all that great on the resumé against anyone else, but …

It did beat Texas, and Kansas wasn’t even close.

KU is a different team at home, but for all the big yards and lots of offense, the defense is still way too leaky, especially against the run. This will be a back-and-forth firefight, but OU will rise up late and come through after getting down in the first half.
