Oklahoma (4-0) vs. Kansas (2-3) Game Preview
Why Kansas Will Win
Can Carter Stanley go off?
The Kansas quarterback has been terrific for the passing game – even though he was shutdown cold by TCU last week.
Before the problems in the 51-14 loss to the Horned Frogs, he was connecting on over 70% of his throws, he hit Boston College and West Virginia or three touchdowns, and he gave the offense something that hadn’t been there for a long, long time – positive consistency.
Losing RB Khalil Herbert hurts – he left the team after four games – but Pooka Williams is more than fine in an expanded role to go along with what Stanley can do.
There are just enough weapons to keep up for a while with the Sooners, but …
Why Oklahoma Will Win
Wisconsin leads the nation in third down stops. Take a guess who’s No. 2.
Oklahoma had among the nation’s worst defenses on third downs last season, but it’s been a night-and-day difference so far, allowing teams to hit fewer than 20% of their tries. Over the last three games – after Houston connected on 39% of its attempts – OU has given up just 5-of-38 third down chances, and Kansas just isn’t sharp enough to do a whole lot better against the swarming D.
The Oklahoma offense is pretty good, too.
Jalen Hurts continues to put up historically great numbers, hitting 78% of his passes for 1,295 yards with 12 touchdowns and a pick, and running for 443 yards and five scores.
He’s been great, but give more credit to the receiving corps that would be getting a whole lot more love if it wasn’t for the Alabama and Clemson stars.
CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo are hitting for well over 25 yards per catch, and the rest of the young corps is going off, too. Kansas really does have offensive weapons, but not enough of them.

What’s Going To Happen
Come for the Oklahoma offense, but stay for the defense.
Kansas will play inspired football for about a quarter, and then the machine will turn on. An explosive run just before halftime – and a strong game from the OU D – will put this away with ease.
