Why Penn State Will Win

This is how you turn a seemingly lost season into a decent NCAA Tournament seed.

It was over. The Nittany Lions were crashing in mid-December, the offense wasn't working well enough, and it was going to take a special sort of run to have any shot at getting close to the post-season. One 7-1 run later ...

It's not like they're doing anything all that great or different but shooting better. They're hitting their threes, the turnovers have slowed to a trickle, and as the fun finish in the overtime win over Northwestern showed, they're playing with the confidence of a team that knows how to win now. 

Penn State has to make this a three point contest. Make Indiana keep getting to the rim and scoring inside the arc, and hope for the threes to add up to more than the twos.

That's exactly what happened the first time around in the 85-66 Nittany Lion win. Penn State hit 18 threes, Indiana made 26 shots, and it worked well for the home side.

But ...

Why Indiana Will Win

It Penn State goes 18-of-31 from three again, you tip your cap and wish it well in the Big Ten Championship.

The team might crank up a ton of shots from the outside, but Indiana isn't that bad at guarding the three. 

Oh sure, IU might have to deal with giving up ten threes, but everything has to click for this all to work for the other side.

The Hoosiers will be steadier. Getting the ball inside and setting up the offense might not be as much fun as running up and down the court and jacking up lots of shots from the outside, but that should be able to win the race.

As long as they're able to withstand that quick 9-0 run that's coming on three straight shots, they should be okay when those same shots start to clang off the iron.

Indiana vs Penn State What's Going To Happen

Indiana will go on a run or three of its own. It just won't be as splashy. 

Penn State doesn't have much of an inside presence, it's going to get killed on the boards, and IU might make 15 more free throws. 

And no, there won't be 18 made threes in this ... maybe. It won't be for a lack of trying.
