Georgia Tech vs Virginia Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

It’s taking a LOT of work and fight to get there, but Georgia Tech is now in range of going bowling.

It has to go to Clemson next week and finishes up with Georgia, so beating Syracuse in two weeks is big, and coming up with this road win is a must.

It’s all coming together with the running game. The Yellow Jackets lost to Boston College - turnovers didn’t help - but the rushing attack ripped off almost 250 yards and then crushed North Carolina for almost 350 in last week’s thrilling win.

Virginia has been okay against the run. Not great, but no one has committed to it outside of the opener against Tennessee and the loss to Boston College. As long as Georgia Tech can control the clock and average close to five yards per pop, it’ll be fine, but …

Why Virginia Will Win

Georgia Tech can’t afford turnovers.

There was one against North Carolina, but the eight in the previous three games were a massive issue. There’s no margin for error here - it took a sensational comeback to beat UNC and a miracle to get by Miami.

Virginia almost pushed past the Canes, too, last week.

The Cavaliers have their own turnover issues, but like Georgia Tech, they’ve been cranking on the running game. They’re now 2-0 when getting past 200 yards, almost beat Miami and NC State by getting over 100, and …

Georgia Tech vs Virginia Who Will Win

Georgia Tech’s run defense isn’t very good at college football.

The Yellow Jackets are battling and balling, but everyone is fattening up on a defensive front that’s allowing way over five yards per pop and 165 yards or more in every game.

At home, Virginia will get physical from the start, it’ll control the ball and the narrative by keeping the offense on the field for 35 minutes, and it’ll overcome two early turnovers by grinding and grinding some more with a 200-yard rushing day.
