Is this when a wildly disappointing season for FIU finally turns around?
UMass was playing like the worst team in college football, right up until Akron came up with a hold my beer moment in a 37-29 Minuteman win. The UMass defense is still a problem – it’s still the worst in the nation in yards allowed – the passing game can’t do much of anything down the field, and there are way too many penalties.
For all of FIU’s major problems – especially when it comes to capitalizing on opportunities and coming up with stops in the red zone – it doesn’t make the big mistakes, it doesn’t get flagged, and there’s way too much there for Butch Davis’ team to be this bad.
The defense will finally play up to its upside, and the offense will roll at will.
Finally, the Golden Panthers will get a win over an FBS win.
