UCLA vs Oregon State Game Preview

Why UCLA Will Win

The Bruins are playing some serious defense. Fifth in the nation and first in the Pac-12 in total defense, and second in the nation behind Miami against the run, UCLA should be able to hold up.

The program hasn’t been known for its killer D over the years, but it’s dominating everyone’s running game - it held Utah to just 102 yards - allows fewer than two yards per carry, and it’s not about to get powered on by an Oregon State offense that - probably - has to run well to win.

The offense has hit 200 passing yards in every game, and it needs to get firing. It took 422 yards from Washington State’s Cam Ward to get by the Beavers - that same Cam Ward held to 204 yards in last week’s Bruin win.

Why Oregon State Will Win

UCLA turns the ball over.

Freshman QB Dante Moore is going to be special. He’s got the tools and talent to take the Bruin O to another level over the next few years, but he also makes just enough mistakes to be a problem.

The Bruins have turned it over multiple times in every game but the layup against North Carolina Central, and now Oregon State should feast off the opportunities.

UCLA vs Oregon State Who Will Win

Can UCLA’s defense take over the turnover battle?

In.a brutal fight low-scoring 14-7 fight with Utah, being -1 in turnover margin meant the world. It was also the only time all year the defense came up with fewer than two takeaways, and it was the lone loss.

But Oregon State isn’t turning it over.

There were two DJ Uiagalelei interceptions against San Diego State, but that’s about it. There were just three more giveaways spread out over the last three games. Can the Oregon State offensive line beat the UCLA defensive line - that’s it. That’s the ball game.

At home, yeah, but it’ll be a fun battle that comes down to who makes more mistakes.
