Totally Wrong College Football Predictions: Colorado Will Go Bowling
Wrong College Football Predictions: Colorado Will Go Bowling
Continuing with the bit highlighting the 5 (potentially) Totally Wrong College Football Predictions: Preseason Version - check out the full explanation here. The call? Colorado will be far better right away than everyone gives it credit for.
Why this prediction is totally right: His Jackson State teams did absolutely everything else right but finish the last two seasons.
Sanders instantly cranked up the talent on a Colorado team now loaded with all-star talent, with a stronger starting 22 than several Pac-12 schools can boast.
Lost in the star power of the conference’s quarterbacks is that Shedeur Sanders is a future NFL starter. Travis Hunter might be the best corner in college football - when he’s not playing receiver. Those are just the headliners on a team full of Power Five starting talent. Everyone seemingly wanted to be a part of what Sanders is creating, and he's just getting started.
Coach Prime really did bring in the - his word - “dogs” who could shock TCU and Nebraska on the way to a 3-0 start. There's the chance we're all missing what could quickly be obvious right away - this team will be really, really fast.
The home game is winnable against Stanford, it wouldn't be stunning to get by Arizona, and if everything goes right, there could be upsets somewhere - at Arizona State, Oregon State, at Washington State - to get to six victories for a team with a 3.5 win total line from most places. (And yes, it's not like we have Colorado rolling in our preseason CFN picks - I'm going super-rogue here.)
With that said, full disclosure ...
Totally Wrong Preseason College Football Predictions
- Texas will be the star of the Big 12
- Caleb Williams might not go No. 1
- Auburn will have a great season
- Florida State will be great, but ...
Why this prediction is total trash: No one was a bigger Deion Sanders fan - except for maybe Deion Sanders - than I was back when he came on the scene in the late 1980s.
I was into the game, the attitude, the flash, absolutely all of it.
I think I still have a 1989 Atlanta Falcon 21 jersey somewhere in basement. (I was a teenager. Of course, grown men should never wear a jersey, but you know that already.) And yeah, until cooler heads prevailed, I actually considered buying the Prime Time CD with the bunt single "Must Be the Money.”
I'm well past the fanboy stage of life now, but I still dig the act, so I might be a tad bit jaded here.
Colorado is starting from scratch, the overall depth isn’t there, and then there’s the biggest problem - the schedule. At least before the season gets going, Colorado State and Stanford appear to be the only two games the Buffs will be favored.
One more thing - stepping up against equal-to-better teams. Sanders did the work at Jackson State, getting talent is 90% of the college gig, and he assembled a terrific staff around him. The two Celebration Bowl losses to inferior teams is a wee bit concerning.
