Why Ohio Will Win
Star quarterback Kurtis Rourke is still getting past a torn ACL, but he's expected to roll for one of the MAC’s best offenses. The receiving corps is loaded - Sam Wiglusz will be a problem - the backfield has good parts, and the line is loaded with veterans.
For all of the good things San Diego State should be able to do, the offensive line has to be better at keeping defenses out of the backfield, the defense is missing just about everyone big from the 2022 front seven, and overall, this isn’t a team built to keep up if in a scoring fight or if it needs to bomb away in a comeback.
Ohio’s improved secondary has the experience to hang with the okay-not-amazing Aztec receivers. However …

Why San Diego State Will Win
This shouldn’t be a high-flying shootout - San Diego State will be physical from the start in more of a grinding fight.
There are way too many major replacements to be smooth, but the defensive talent and upside are there, the offense should smash away for a nice group of backs, and QB Jalen Mayden has the experience and expectations to be an all-around force.
Time of possession will matter. As long as Mayden can keep the chains moving and the SDSU defense resting on the sidelines, this should be played at the right pace. The O will be fine, but ...

How quickly can the San Diego State defense come together?
The parts might be different, but the program keeps filling in the gaps and moving along. The linebackers will be phenomenal - they’ll keep the Bobcat backfield from going off - and the San Diego State running game will take over for stretches.
Ohio lost its last ten non-conference road games going back to a 2018 win over UMass, but it closed out that season with a 27-0 Frisco Bowl win over SDSU.
It won't exactly be a revenge game, but the home side will get the win in an entertaining low-scoring fight.
