Oklahoma vs LSU Prediction, Preview, Betting Lines: The Start of a New Big-Time Rivalry?

Oklahoma and LSU should turn into a terrific new SEC rivalry. Here's our preview along with the CFN prediction, what will happen, and betting lines.

The last time we saw these two, Joe Burrow’s LSU team was rolling past Jalen Hurts’ Sooners in the College Football Playoff in the 2019 season.

Before that Nick Saban’s Tigers rumbled over OU for the 2003 national title, and before that 1949 Oklahoma won the Sugar Bowl over LSU to go 11-0.

The fourth meeting between these two college football powerhouses doesn’t mean much compared to the other three, but it’s still a huge deal for the two coaching staffs.

Oklahoma’s Brent Venables and staff came up with a gem of of a defensive game to beat Alabama 24-3 last week to get bowl eligible.

Meanwhile, LSU tapped out of the CFP hunt with a three-game losing streak before beating Vanderbilt, but pulling this off is big for head man Brian Kelly.

LSU’s offense can bomb away at will, but it works best when there’s a wee bit of balance. Keep the Tigers to under four yards per carry - OU is giving up 2.9 - and there’s a shot to overcome …

Why LSU Will Win

The Oklahoma offense. It’s still not anything great.

It took advantage of its opportunities against Bama, but the passing game didn’t do much - the ground game saved the day.

LSU’s defense might not be consistent, but the team is 5-0 when holding teams to under 335 yards of total O.

LSU’s offense should be able to crank up just enough production at home, with just enough balance, to set the pace, and …

Oklahoma vs LSU: Who Will Win?

How many times has the Oklahoma offense pushed past 335 yards?

Three times. Maine, Temple, and Tulane - the Sooners have yet to get the attack working well enough against an FBS team to get by a strong overall performance from a jacked up home side.
