North Carolina at NC State Game Preview

Why North Carolina Will Win

Get that O going like normal, don’t screw up, come through late when you have to.

NC State isn’t capable of opening it up. It did in the 48-41 win over Marshall, and it kept pressing in last week’s 35-28 win over Virginia Tech, but it’s a push for this O to get within 100 yards of, well, 500 yards.

The defense is fantastic. The Wolfpack lived for a while by opening up the Raleigh branch of the Iowa Hawkeyes, but North Carolina has to be more like Notre Dame.

Others have been able to put yards on NC State, but the Irish - granted, it was early in the season - were able to crank up the passing, the balance, and do it all with just one turnover.

NC State has only allowed more than 400 yards twice - the most came against Notre Dame, 456. North Carolina only failed to get past 456 twice, once was the opener against South Carolina, and once was a few weeks later against Pitt - both wins.

Why NC State Will Win

Duke’s offense isn’t doing much of anything consistently well, and it was able to push for close to 400 yards on the North Carolina defense.

Clemson started running last week in Death Valley and never stopped.

Because of that D, the Tar Heels are a reasonably bad call in the Duke game away from losing its last four games against FBS teams. Yeah, the O cranks it up, and the D gives it back.

No, NC State doesn’t have the sort of firepower to keep up if North Carolina puts up 500 yards, but even when it came up 457 against the great Clemson defense, the three turnovers screwed it all up.

Bend but don’t break. That has to be the Wolfpack in this, but …

North Carolina at NC State Who Will Win

They’ll have to get over the big plays and passing accuracy from Drake Maye. However, North Carolina isn’t used to trying to win low scoring fights. It lost the two times it was held to under 30 points.

NC State has only allowed more than 30 points twice, and that was almost two months ago.

It’ll come down to two late stops and one big field goal, but the Wolfpack will slip by in a very, very intense fight.
