Why Michigan State Will Win
Is anything going right while the program is in a holding pattern before figuring out what’s next?
The defense hasn’t been too bad. It’s great on third downs, was terrific at stuffing the Iowa running game - but who isn’t? - and the ground attack was able to motor a bit on the terrific Hawkeye D.
Rutgers might be playing well overall, but the running game didn’t do anything in the loss to Wisconsin. The Spartan D has held up just fine and the opportunities have been there to make the last three losses more of a fight, but the turnovers have to stop.
The main issue is fixable. The nine giveaways against Maryland and Iowa can’t spill over - the Spartans have to to come up with a clean game and they’ll have a shot by grinding it out a bit on with the running game - Rutgers isn’t going to run away and hide with this - but …

Why Rutgers Will Win
The Spartans just aren’t playing well, and for obvious reasons.
The turnovers are bad, the 37 penalties over the last three weeks are too many, and the defense isn’t creating enough big plays and takeaways to make up for the issues.
On the flip side, Rutgers isn’t very good, but it doesn’t screw up. Four turnovers in six games, minimal penalties, two takeaways in every game but two - it’s maximizes what it has, and that includes an offensive line that’s playing as well as any Scarlet Knight front five in years.

Michigan State vs Rutgers Who Will Win
Rutgers isn’t good enough to run away and hide with any game, but it’s steady and tough enough to simply outlast the Spartans.
Michigan State will score early to bring a little hope, but Rutgers will control the tempo, will capitalize on every Spartan mistake - and there will be Spartan mistakes - and for the first time since 2014 the program will get its fifth win before the third week in October.
