Really? Kansas football is interesting?
It wasn’t just that it started winning and went to a bowl game for the first time in 15 years, or that this all came from out of nowhere. It’s that the whole season was really, really fun, and the good times don't appear ready to slow down.
The team that became the traditional Big 12 designated free space suddenly became a tough out. The offense was dangerous, the team played with confidence every week, and … okay, fine. Kansas lost seven of its last eight games after a 5-0 start and the program still doesn’t have a winning season since that 2008 run, but no one remembers that.
Kansas battled Arkansas in a wild 55-53 Liberty Bowl thriller. It gave TCU fits, got by Oklahoma State when the defense worked, and more than anything else it showed that it's possible to win at football.
Head coach Lance Leipold - the D-III legend at UW Whitewater with six national titles before turning around Buffalo - worked miracles in just two seasons, and now he has one of the most experienced teams in college football to go even further.
The defense is still going to be an issue and the Big 12 schedule didn’t get any easier with the addition of the four new members, but after the basketball side flamed out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament - sorry, too soon? - Jayhawk fans have a reason to be interested in sports before Midnight Madness.
