Georgia at Georgia Tech Game Preview
Why Georgia Will Win
Yeah, it’s playing like the No. 1 team in the country.
For all the hammering on the Georgia schedule and how the program didn’t exactly push the non-conference envelope, it just ripped through Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee without so much of a blink. Okay, maybe the Mizzou game took some work, but it was still a nine-point win over a CFP top ten-caliber team.
It’s been lost a bit in all the flash of LSU’s Jayden Daniels and the big-time quarterback play in the Pac-12, but Carson Beck is playing as effectively as any passer in America. He’s hitting 73% of his grows, averaging well over 300 yards per game, and he’s not making big mistakes with his five picks spread out.
Georgia Tech’s pass defense has been … questionable.
There’s no pass rush, the Georgia O line will give Beck all the time he needs, and it won’t hurt that the Yellow Jacket run defense is the worst in the ACC and should get beaten on for over 200 yards. But …

Why Georgia Tech Will Win
It’s gravy time.
Georgia Tech won three of its last four games to get bowl eligible for the first time since 2018. This isn’t the last game of the season now, which doesn’t take away the emotion of playing the best team in college football, but there’s more fun to be had.
The passing game has to be great. Haynes King is an SEC quarterback cranking it up for the Yellow Jackets. The former Texas A&M Aggie throws picks, but he also hit 77% or more of his throws in three of the last four games - all wins.
As great as it is, the Georgia defense can be run on a little bit. Tech will give it a bit of a try, but it comes down to King connecting on 70% or more of his throws to keep things moving. The team is 4-0 when he does that, mostly because he’s moving the chains with the midrange passes. But …

Georgia at Georgia Tech Who Will Win
It’s Georgia, so it allowed Florida’s Graham Mertz to connect on more than 70% of his throws - he did that all year before getting hurt - and that’s been it. The Yellow Jackets have to let it rip, anyway.
But the turnovers.
Georgia Tech will move the ball surprisingly well, but Georgia will do it better, come up with more big plays from the passing game, and the two interceptions coming from King will be killers.
It’ll be fun, and the Yellow Jackets will connect on some haymakers, but it won’t be nearly enough.
