Why Bowling Green Will Win

Bowling Green managed to go bowling last year with an offense that didn’t do what it’s supposed to.

It’s supposed to wing it around the yard and keep things moving with more downfield plays and a better pace. This year there’s good versatility and experience on the line, and Connor Bazelak is a solid veteran quarterback coming in from Indiana and Missouri before that.

There’s hope for a decent defensive back seven that did a great job of taking the ball away thanks to the MAC’s best pass rush.

Why Liberty Will Win

New head coach Jamey Chadwell comes in and now the offense should be better.

Obviously Hugh Freeze was a fantastic coach for the Flames - up until he was measuring drapes for his Auburn office late in the year - but here comes a quicker-hitting, high-efficiency attack that should keep everything moving like Bowling Green would love its offense to do.

The Falcon pass rush should be offset by the Flames getting the ball out and moving in a hurry. On the other side, the Liberty defense that led the nation in tackles for loss should have a whole lot of run against a line that couldn’t keep good defenses out of the backfield.

This is a huge moment for Liberty. The schedule is a nice soft breeze, the team has playmakers left over from the Freeze era, and getting Chadwell - let’s be honest, this is a smidge-higher-than-lateral move from Coastal Carolina - was fantastic.

This is the game the Flames need to play like they’re about to become a thing this season - at least record-wise, and they will. The Bowling Green attack won’t keep up the pace.
