5. America needed this bowl game

Maybe you want a College Football Playoff to be a tight defensive fight, and maybe you want the Rose Bowl to be a slugfest. But the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl, yeah, 1,241 yards of total offense is exactly what this bowl season needed.

As the ESPN announcing team liked to keep hammering, this wasn’t the Cheez-It Bowl.

It wasn’t boring.

There was lots and lots of offense, lots and lots of big plays, wild swings, weird moments, bad calls, lots of pops, and a close battle that went to the end.

Baylor rolled for 668 yards of total offense, Vanderbilt put up 573, and neither defense appeared able to show up until the Bears came up with the final fourth down stop to put this away.

It might have been a loss for the SEC, but …
