10 Best College Football Predictions Against the Spread: Week 9, Top 3

3. Kent State at Western Michigan
Line: Point Total 60.5
Pick: Over
This is probably too high on the list considering its possible Kent State gets back on the bus out of Kalamazoo with just six points pocketed. That’s what it put up in last week’s loss to Bowling Green.
However, the Golden Flashes allowed 37 points or more to every other FBS team, and 52 or more in four of the six FBS games.
Western Michigan over the last three weeks? It put up 45 on Ball State, 34, on Akron, and 48 on Buffalo. You need Kent State to help, but the Broncos will do most of the heavy lifting.
2. Tulane at North Texas
Line: Tulane -7.5
Pick: Tulane
This game screwed me up all sorts of ways.
North Texas is an over machine. Great offense, bad defense, and lots and lots of points. Last week’s loss to Memphis hit a total of 96. The Florida Atlantic win got to 78 points. The Tulsa win 72, Wyoming 61, Texas Tech 87, and South Alabama 90.
But this goes against my bedrock belief that you never, EVER take the over with the total is 70ish, and this one is at 69.5. Too many things can go wrong.
(But if you want to take the over, I’m not saying anything.)
North Texas played two good teams, Memphis and Texas Tech. It lost to Memphis by eight and Texas Tech by 45. Tulane hasn’t played anyone great in a while, but it won each of its last four games by eight points or more.
And finally …
1. New Mexico at Colorado State
Line: Point Total 62.5
Pick: Over
1) Not only have I hit - I think - just one of my No. 1 picks against the spread, I haven’t even been close.
2) So no, I won’t feel insulted if you do play the momentum and fade this, but …
3) That’s no fun. Join the party.
Again, as I’ll repeat from earlier picks, sometimes if something doesn’t work, you tip your cap, have a delightful afternoon, and sleep the sleep of angels knowing that you did this the right way.
THIS point total should hover around 70. And why? 50, 52, 50. That’s what New Mexico has put up in each of the last three games.
The Lobos have no defense, a great offense, and on the year has only played one of its seven games with a total under 63 points.
Colorado State might have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the finish line, but it’ll get there.
