Oregon Ducks College Football Preview 2021: What Will Happen, Season Prediction

We’re a family show around here, so we’ll clean up the painfully-dated movie reference line from GoodFellas.

“(Bleep) you, pay me.”

The knee-jerk reaction to the “who’s going to be in the College Football Playoff? question is almost always Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and probably Oklahoma. But talent-wise, Georgia has to be put in that mix, and so does Oregon.

The Ducks have the guys after a slew of elite recruiting classes by Mario Cristobal and his staff – with a big shoutout to Willie Taggart, too.

They’ve done the Pac-12 Championship thing, they won a Rose Bowl, and they’ve established that when they’ve got their mojo working, they can beat just about anyone.

The 2021 team has all the NFL talent, the depth, the systems, and the schedule to get in the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2014.

Replacing your starting quarterback? (Bleep) you, get in the College Football Playoff again.

Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Clemson are all going into the season with a new starting quarterback, too.

Have to go to Ohio State? (Bleep) you, get in the College Football Playoff again.

Alabama has to play all the killers in the SEC West, including Texas A&M on the road. Clemson has to play … okay, Clemson is in the CFP with its schedule. And Ohio State has to play you, Oregon, as well as its normal run of above-average Big Ten teams.

Set The Oregon Ducks Regular Season Win Total At … 10

Oh no, Oregon, so you have to go Washington and have a nasty date at Utah later in the year? (Bleep) you, get in the College Football Playoff again.

The Ducks catch a MONSTER break by missing both USC and Arizona State – the two best teams in the Pac-12 South.

A College Football Playoff-worthy team gets through this slate.

Yeah, the Ohio State date is brutal, and the Pac-12 is far better this season, but again, the Ducks are missing two of the four best teams in the regular season. As good as Washington is, if you can’t win that, and if you can’t get through the rest of the Pac-12, how are you beating Alabama or Clemson in the tournament?

And there really is a prove-it factor to this program after getting rolled over by Iowa State in the Fiesta Bowl, run over in three conference losses, and after gagging away a trip to the CFP in 2019 with a last-minute collapse to Auburn and the loss at Arizona State.

Everything is there to be special. Everything is in place to not just be one of the four best teams in college football, but possibly one of the top two.

Everything is there for the 2021 Oregon team to pay off.
