UAB Blazers College Football Preview 2021: What Will Happen, Season Prediction
In the last four years, UAB has won 34 games, three bowl games in four appearances, two Conference USA championships and has been to a third.
It’s a fully-functioning Conference USA powerhouse of a program complete with a shiny new stadium.
UAB is still a great story, and it’s still an amazing accomplishment to come back from all of that to have this kind of success, but 2015 and 2016 are so 2015 and 2016.
It’s okay to not make the time off part of the narrative anymore – even though I just did. UAB has been fantastic in the rebirth under Bill Clark, and even with all of the accomplishments and all of the big wins, this might be his best team yet.
Set The UAB Blazers Regular Season Win Total At … 8.5
Clark’s biggest accomplishment was keeping things going as much as he could during those two years off, and it worked with a decent group in place to hit the ground running. But again, it’s going to be five years since all that happened – he had to restock the shelves along the way.
UAB is now proving that anything that happened after the comeback wasn’t a fluke. The program has staying power, it has around 17 starters back along with the two kickers, it’s loaded with all-stars and depth, and now it’s assumed that it’s Conference USA championship or bust.
Asking for a win at Georgia is too much, and going to Tulane might be a problem along with the home date against Liberty, but there’s no reason this team shouldn’t rip through the Conference USA slate.
There will be a misfire at some point in conference play, but the team has to win the West – it’s way too good to expect anything less – and get back to a title game and go to another bowl.
The expectations of winning a third Conference USA title in four seasons isn’t exactly how it was drawn up when things kicked back in five years ago, but that’s the narrative now.
