UAB Blazers College Football Preview 2021: Top Players
Best UAB Blazers Offensive Player
OT Sidney Wells, Sr.
The strength of the Blazers during the rise back up has been the growth of the offensive line, and it showed with three all-star talents up front last year and with all five starters back. The 6-4, 325-pound Wells is the best of the bunch working at right tackle. He’s got the next-level size and the ability to blast away, but it’s pass protection skills that set him apart from the pack.
2. OG Colby Ragland, Sr.
3. TE Hayden Pittman, Sr.
4. OG Matthew Trehern, Jr.
5. QB Tyler Johnston, Sr.
Best UAB Blazers Defensive Player
LB Noah Wilder, Sr.
While he might not be quite as splashy as other top Blazer defenders, and a slew of defensive backs should be in the running for the top defensive player honor, but the 6-0, 235-pound Wilder will be the rock in the linebacking corps who should lead the team in tackles. He came up with 85 stops as a sophomore and earned all-star honors with 50 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss last year.
2. CB TD Marshall, Sr.
3. DT Antonio Moultrie, Jr.
4. S Damon Miller, Jr.
5. S Dy’jonn Turner, Sr.
Top Incoming UAB Blazers Transfer
LB Justin Thomas, Sr.
Who’s going to be the pass rusher from an outside linebacker spot? The hope is for the 6-5, 255-pounder from LSU to rise up into the role – or be a part of the rotation – after coming up with 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks during his six games of work. He’s got the size to find a role in a variety of ways.
