Appalachian State Mountaineers College Football Preview 2021: Top Players
Best Appalachian State Mountaineers Offensive Player
WR Corey Sutton, Sr.
The Mountaineers are ridiculously deep at receiver. It was already going to be the best in the Sun Belt – and maybe the Group of Five – without the former Kansas State Wildcat.
Sutton caught 85 passes for close to 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns – averaging over 16 yards per catch – in his first two years. Now he’s back after tearing his ACL two years ago and opting out last season. Healthy and ready to go, good luck dealing Sutton in his come back year.
2. WR Thomas Hennigan, Sr.
3. OG Baer Hunter, Sr.
4. WR Malik Williams, Sr.
5. RB Camerun Peoples, Jr.
Best Appalachian State Mountaineers Defensive Player
CB Shaun Jolly, Sr.
He’s been – somewhat arguably – the best defensive back in the Sun Belt over the last few years.
He’s a devastating playmaker who took two interceptions for scores in 2019, and while he didn’t pick off any passes last year, he broke up six passes and came up with 41 stops. He’s only 5-9 and 180 pounds, he’s tough, ultra-quick, and great at attacking the ball.
2. DE Demetrius Taylor, Sr.
3. LB D’Marco Jackson, Sr.
4. LB Trey Cobb. Jr.
5. S Kaiden Smith, Sr.
Top Incoming Appalachian State Mountaineers Transfer
QB Chase Brice, Sr.
It’s hardly a sure thing that he’s the starting quarterback, but after pulling off a few big moments at Clemson – and after throwing seemingly nothing but interceptions at Duke – he’s here as a big 6-3, 235-pound veteran who should be able to shine with the phenomenal group around him.
He’s got the arm, the experience, and the time logged in to be ready to step in and shine. At least that’s the hope.
