Big 12
Baylor Bears
Letdown/Sandwich Game: at Texas State, Sept. 4
Game Before: None
Game After: Texas Southern
There really isn’t any sort of a letdown or sandwich game coming off an awful 2020 season, but the opener against Texas State on the road might be slightly tricky. The Bobcats will have a funky offense that could at least make it interesting.

Iowa State Cyclones
Letdown/Sandwich Game: at UNLV, Sept. 18
Game Before: Iowa
Game After: at Baylor
The Cyclones will be coming off of two emotionally-charged local games – Northern Iowa and Iowa – to start the season, and the Big 12 campaign starts up the following week at Baylor. Going to Vegas in between should be fun – even if the players don’t get to do the town like most people do.

Kansas Jayhawks
Letdown/Sandwich Game: South Dakota, Sept. 4
Game Before: None
Game After: at Coastal Carolina
Really, Kansas? You’re going to get threezied by Coastal Carolina? The week before dealing with the Chanticleers for the third year in a row, and with Baylor right after that, the new era of Kansas football starts out against a South Dakota team that will have a full spring of warm up games under its belt – for whatever that’s worth.

Kansas State Wildcats
Letdown/Sandwich Game: Nevada, Sept. 18
Game Before: Southern Illinois
Game After: at Oklahoma State
Nevada isn’t a sandwich or letdown game as much as it is the hopeful calm before the storm with Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa State next. However, the Wolf Pack will have the offense and team to not only win this, but the Mountain West title.

Oklahoma Sooners
Letdown/Sandwich Game: at Baylor, Nov. 13
Game Before: Texas Tech
Game After: Iowa State
If things go according to form, Oklahoma should be rolling by mid-November, and Baylor shouldn’t. Focus-wise, the Sooners will be coming off a two week break, and the finishing kick against Iowa State and Oklahoma State comes after the trip to Waco.

Oklahoma State Cowboys
Letdown/Sandwich Game: Kansas, Oct. 30
Game Before: at Iowa State
Game After: at Kansas State
Kansas will be the exhale moment for the Cowboys as the home game in a run of three road games in four weeks. With Texas and Iowa State before and West Virginia right after, the energy might not be there for the free-space on the slate.

Texas Longhorns
Letdown/Sandwich Game: Louisiana, Sept. 4
Game Before: None
Game After: at Arkansas
Ask 2020 Iowa State about how much fun it is to play Louisiana at home to open up a season. The Steve Sarkisian era opens up with game after game after game with an interesting hook. At Arkansas, the in-state games against Rice, Texas Tech and TCU, and the Oklahoma showdown will all be a big deal, but the Ragin’ Cajuns are going to be a problem, too.

TCU Horned Frogs
Letdown/Sandwich Game: Baylor, Nov. 6
Game Before: at Kansas State
Game After: at Oklahoma State
TCU will be coming off a run of three road games in four weeks, and Baylor is supposed to be the relative break with Oklahoma State and Iowa State on the road over the last three weeks. It’s not Senior Day – that’s Kansas two weeks later – so there won’t be that extra motivation.

Texas Tech Red Raiders
Letdown/Sandwich Game: FIU, Sept. 18
Game Before: Stephen F. Austin
Game After: at Texas
FIU is supposedly the layup game. It shouldn’t be an issue if the Red Raiders are okay, but that comes after likely shootouts with Houston and Stephen F. Austin before and with the Big 12 season starting against Texas to follow.
– Full Schedule Analysis
West Virginia Mountaineers
Letdown/Sandwich Game: LIU, Sept. 11
Game Before: at Maryland
Game After: Virginia Tech
West Virginia won’t lose to the Sharks. LIU is just getting its footing in the FCS world, but it’s the one big sandwich moment on the Mountaineers’ schedule – the Kansas game finishes up the season. The year starts at Maryland and Virginia Tech and at Oklahoma are right after.
