New Year’s Six Bowls

GoodYear Cotton Bowl Classic

Wednesday, December 30
ESPN, 7:15 pm
AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Last Season: Penn State 53, Memphis 39
Oklahoma vs Florida

Knee-Jerk Instant Analysis: Over, over, over, over, over. I don’t care what it is. DO it – it’s 71.5 … YEEEEEAHHH – and assume both sides will have plenty of chances to take control at some point. If I’m living on the theory this bowl season that the Big 12 just isn’t that great, and considering Dan Mullen has won his last four bowl games is 7-2 in them overall, go Gators.

Knee-Jerk No Research Prediction: Florida 44, Oklahoma 37
Early Line Guess: Florida -7
Actual BetMGM Line: Florida -3

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Friday, January 1
ESPN, 12:30 pm
Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
Last Season: LSU 63, Oklahoma 28
Georgia  vs Cincinnati

Knee-Jerk Instant Analysis: Power Five snobbery to the max here. The world is going to believe the Cincinnati thing and start hammering the AAC champ hard to bring the line down … good. Georgia’s sin is that it played Florida and Alabama and lost to both of them, and before JT Daniels was the starting quarterback.

Cincinnati needed a walk-off field goal to get by a good Tulsa team and fought too hard against an okay-not-2017/2018 UCF. However, this won’t be a blowout – the Bearcats are tough enough to make this a fight.

Knee-Jerk No Research Prediction: Georgia 30, Cincinnati 23
Early Line Guess: Georgia -5.5
Actual BetMGM Line: Georgia -7

PlayStation Fiesta Bowl

Saturday, January 2
ESPN, 4:00
State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ
Last Season: Clemson 29, Ohio State 23
Oregon  vs Iowa State

Knee-Jerk Instant Analysis: I can’t be the guy who dogs the Big 12 and Iowa State all year and then jumps on board in a game like this. Oregon is too flaky to like too much, but Iowa State is SO mediocre in bowls. It got blown out by Notre Dame last year, is 1-4 in its last five.

The last time it won a bowl game by more than four points was in your 20000 Insight.com Bowl over Pitt. That was the only time Iowa State – 4-11 all-time in bowls – has ever won a bowl game by more than four points.

Knee-Jerk No Research Prediction: Oregon 34, Iowa State 30
Early Line Guess: Oregon -5.5
Actual BetMGM Line: Iowa State -4

Capital One Orange Bowl

Saturday, January 2
ESPN, 8:00 pm
Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
Last Season: Florida 36, Virginia 28
North Carolina vs Texas A&M

Knee-Jerk Instant Analysis: Do you believe in this Texas A&M run defense or not? If you really think this was one of the four best teams – I’m not quite there, but I think it would be Notre Dame – then you have to think it can handle the Tar Heel ground game. The Aggies are going to grind out the clock down to a nub and pound away.

Knee-Jerk No Research Prediction: Texas A&M 30, North Carolina 17
Early Line Guess: Texas A&M -4
Actual BetMGM Line: Texas A&M -7
