It’s going to be a problem going forward. Considering how bad the Big 12 was against the Sun Belt, how much credit do you give Texas or Oklahoma if either one slips against an Iowa State or Kansas State?

We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but no, Texas rolling UTEP 59-3 doesn’t really mean anything.

Longhorn QB Sam Ehlinger was amazing in just over a half, hitting 25-of-33 passes for 426 yards and five scores.

Ooooooooh, it was against UTEP.

Oklahoma had it even easier with its light scrimmage against Missouri State, scoring 31 first quarter points on the way to a 48-0 win. Spencer Rattler was brilliant in his full-time debut, completing 14-of-17 passes for 290 yards and four scores, looking like the next great Sooner quarterback he’s expected to be.

You would, too. Tanner Mordecai and Chandler Morris combined to complete 16-of-19 passes for close to 200 yards after taking over for Rattler.

Of course Oklahoma and Texas are terrific, and it’s not their fault that most of the rest of the conference stunk it up. But just because the league’s two superstar program didn’t wet the bed against awful teams doesn’t mean they deserved to move up in the latest round of rankings.

If the Sun Belt could rip through almost a third of the conference, OU and Texas will need to, too.
