It was a strange 2019 season for a Blue Devil team that started out great, and then everything crashed in the second half of the season with injuries and inconsistencies as nothing really worked.
This year’s team has the experience and depth to make this a decent enough season to get back to a bowl game, but that’s what last season’s Blue Devils appear to have, too.
There’s no threatening anyone for ACC supremacy, but as long as Chase Brice – or one of the quarterback options – is good, and if the pass rush continues to be as strong as it was last season, this should be a good enough team to at least come up with a decent season. However …
Set The Duke Blue Devils Regular Season Win Total At … 4.5
This should be a better team than the 2019 version, but the ACC is going to be better, too.
Few teams in the ACC will suffer more from the lack of a normal non-conference schedule. The Blue Devils were supposed to play Middle Tennessee and Elon, and now they’re going to miss those two wins.
There shouldn’t be any issues with Middle Tennessee, Elon, or Charlotte to kick things off – there’s no Alabama to start the season like last year.
The last time Duke started a year at least 3-0 and didn’t go bowling was 1988, and it went 7-3-1. The last time Duke started a year at least 3-0 and didn’t come up with a winning season was 1987.
It’s not going to start 3-0.
Boston College, Charlotte, Wake Forest, at Georgia Tech. At the very least, the Blue Devils have to win three of them, but they need all four.
They’ll pull off an upset somewhere – like against North Carolina – and they could get a road win over Syracuse, but getting to six victories and a winning season will be tough.
