It wasn’t a pretty season and there were too many self-inflicted wounds, but Tennessee won a bowl game in really, really fun fashion,

Of course this would’ve been an even more interesting season had the Vol D held on in early losses to Georgia State and BYU, but overall, those two losses and the 1-4 start might have been exactly what the program needed.

It’s not like Tennessee was awful during that run, but it couldn’t create its own luck and was way too inconsistent. The team needed time and mature, adapt, and adjust.

It showed with six straight wins to close the season.

For a program that hasn’t had a whole lot so chirp about, this was amazing. It wasn’t the College Football Playoff, or the Sugar, for the Outback, but it was a bowl win over a Big Ten team.

It was an eight-win season for a program that totaled nine victories over the last two seasons. It was just the third time since 2007 that Tennessee managed to win eight games or more.

All it took was the big comeback. However …
