2. Auburn’s great defensive line just got beaten up
It was the one part of this game that didn’t seem to be a factor – Auburn’s defensive front was supposed to be a massive plus for the SEC side.
It wasn’t, and the Tigers had their guys on the D line.
They had Derrick Brown, they had Marlon Davidson, and they had the front wall that that allowed 115 rushing yards per game and was dominant at getting into the backfield.
And they didn’t get the license plate of that truck that just ran over them.
Minnesota was able to throw deep, but everything was set up by a running game that pounded away for an effective 4.8 yards per carry and 215 yards in all.
Mo Ibrahim ran 20 times for 140 yards and a score, Rodney Smith pounded away for 69 yards, and the backs all worked behind a Gopher line that didn’t have all the parts, but kept blasting away on drive after drive.
