Why North Dakota State Will Win The FCS National Championship
– Good luck trying to slow down the North Dakota State running game. Illinois State was the only team that was able to keep down the fourth-best attack in the FCS. The Bison ran for three touchdowns or more in 12 of the other 15 games, and 200 yards or more – okay, so they were four yards short in the win over UC Davis – in every game except for that date with ISU.
James Madison has an incredible defensive front against the run, but it hasn’t seen anything quite this nasty so far.
– NDSU doesn’t screw up. JMU has only turned it over 15 times on the season, but the other side has only given away six turnovers. How sharp has the team been? It turned it over twice in the blowout over Butler in the opener, an just four times the rest of the way in the final 14 games.
– The Bison are absolutely incredible in the FCS playoffs. Before making the successful jump up to the FBS world, Marshall was considered the gold standard when it came to FCS playoff success. Montana might have been steadier when it came to just getting in – going to 17 straight – but the Thundering Herd went 23-6 during its time in the playoffs.
North Dakota State has lost just twice in 37 games. Sometimes, programs just have the formula and the preparation figured out.
