Mountain West Bowl Grades
Mountain West Bowl Grade: C+
The conference might have been 4-3, but the league champ – Boise State – got blasted by Washington in the Las Vegas, and losing two games to MAC teams is a bad, bad look. Outside of Air Force beating Washington State by ten in the Cheez-It, there’s not a big-time win in the bunch – with some due respect for Hawaii beating BYU in the Hawaii.
Air Force Bowl Grade: A
Final Score: Air Force 31, Washington State 21
Line: Air Force -2.5, o.u: 71.5

The O worked. It ran for 371 yards, the D held down the Washington State passing game – allowing 351 yards and three touchdowns – and the team totally controlled the game. The Group of Five program rocked the Power Fiver from the Pac-12 by double-digits.
Boise State Bowl Grade: D-
Final Score: Washington 38, Boise State 7
Line: Washington -3.5, o/u: 48
– Las Vegas Bowl 5 Things That Matter
This might have been the Chris Petersen game for the other side, but considering Boise State was deep in the hunt for the New Year’s Six game as the top Group of Five champion, it didn’t even show up. Down 24-0 before finally getting on the board, this was a chance to make a statement, and it really, really didn’t.
Hawaii Bowl Grade: A-
Final Score: Hawaii 38, BYU 34
Line: BYU -1.5, o/u: 65.5
– 5 Thoughts on the Hawaii Bowl
Considering the Rainbow Warriors lost last year’s bowl game at home, to come up with the win in a fun game. The passing attack did what it was supposed to do – close to 500 yards – the team was +3 in turnover margin, and it was a great win.
Nevada Bowl Grade: C
Final Score: Ohio 30, Nevada 21
Line: Ohio -10, o/u: 62
Nevada was never in it. When the team lost this year, it got rocked. It got down big early – settling for three field goals before the fourth quarter – couldn’t stop the Ohio running game, and didn’t get over the hump despite 402 passing yards from Carson Strong.
San Diego State Bowl Grade: A
Final Score: San Diego State 48, Central Michigan 11
Line: San Diego State -3.5, o/u: 40.5
– New Mexico Bowl 5 Things That Matter
Where did the offense come from? Of course the SDSU defense was able to show up, but the O that did next to nothing all year came up with 510 yards with everything working. The D did its part, too, with five takeaways.
Utah State Bowl Grade: C
Final Score: Kent State 51, Utah State 41
Line: Utah State -7, o/u: 72
– Frisco Bowl 5 Things That Matter
All the defense needed to do was come up with ONE late stop. It was a disappointing finish to a disappointing year, spoiling a huge offensive day and a great game from QB Jordan Love by giving up 25 fourth quarter points.
Wyoming Bowl Grade: A
Final Score: Wyoming 38, Georgia State 17
Line: Wyoming -7, o/u: 48.5
Wyoming with an … offense? The team that did next to nothing all year found a passing game, was balanced overall, and came up with a shocking 524 yards. There were three turnovers, and it gave up a scoring drive right out of the gate, but the team upped its game in the bowl – that’s what it was supposed to do.
