Sun Belt Bowl Grades
Sun Belt Bowl Grade: B
It wasn’t a bad run. The league went 3-2 with the big guys representing the league well. Both the Georgia teams lost, but they were hardly dropkicked – Georgia State and Georgia Southern weren’t bad. Appalachian State, Louisiana and Arkansas State were excellent as they did what they needed to do.
Appalachian State Bowl Grade: B+
Final Score: Appalachian State 31, UAB 17
Line: Appalachian State -16.5, o/u: 48
– 5 Thoughts on the New Orleans Bowl
The Mountaineers overcame the coaching changes and a 14-0 deficit to find their groove in the second half. Even so, they were supposed to win this as a 16.5 point favorite. Not covering didn’t matter to them, but they figured it out and rolled to a double-digit bowl win.
Arkansas State Bowl Grade: B+
Final Score: Arkansas State 34, FIU 26
Line: FIU -1, o/u: 59
– Camellia Bowl 5 Things That Matter
The offense was great, the passing game was terrific, and there were several big performances. There were too many penalties and two turnovers that got FIU back into the game, but it was a solid bowl win for the program as a slight underdog.
Georgia Southern Bowl Grade: C
Final Score: Liberty 23, Georgia Southern 16
Line: Georgia Southern -5.5, o/u: 58.5
– Cure Bowl 5 Things That Matter
The Eagles couldn’t get down, and they did. They rallied back late after getting behind 23-7, but they had to keep settling for field goals instead of making a huge push to get over the hump. The 249 yards of total offense didn’t get the job done.
Georgia State Bowl Grade: C
Final Score: Wyoming 38, Georgia State 17
Line: Wyoming -7, o/u: 48.5
Who gives up over 500 yards of offense to Wyoming?! The Panthers came out hot with a good early scoring drive, but the defense struggled early on, and the offense couldn’t get back into the end zone until it was way too late.
Louisiana Bowl Grade: B+
Final Score: Louisiana 27, Miami University 17
Line: Louisiana -15.5, o/u: 54.5
It wasn’t a perfect performance, and it took a little bit of late luck to put it away, but the Ragin’ Cajuns beat the MAC champion by double-digits. They were never really threatened and were in control throughout. An 11-win season? Not bad.
