2. Oklahoma’s road games

The Sooners have a bit of a dangerous run this year.

Last season, they had their week off right after the non-conference schedule, and it showed a bit as the team looked a wee bit gassed at times late. This year, that week off comes after just two games.

Also, last year’s team had five road games along with the neutral site date with Texas – the week off game after going to UCLA. This year, that week off comes after playing Tennessee and before going to Army, which means it’ll be away from Norman for six of its last ten games.

In 2018, the Sooners’ off-week came in the middle of the season after playing Texas and before going to TCU. In 2017, the off-week came in late September, but it was after playing two road games in the first four – by the way, they lost at home to Iowa State after getting the rest.

Again. early off-weeks are sort of the norm – they usually come in September. However – to keep on hammering this – the open date this year is the earliest the program has had since 2012, and it followed that up with a home loss to Kansas State.

To make the taxing run even worse, there are three games in four weeks away from home – at Army, Texas, at Iowa State – before the always-emotional fight against Oklahoma State at home, and then it’s back on the road for two more road games against TCU and West Virginia.

The point? Throw in the regular season finale against Texas Tech on the road, and the king of the Big 12 has to do everything possible to stay fresh.
