1. Mack Brown’s successful return
It was only a 7-6 season, and it was only a Military Bowl win over Temple, and …
It was a winning season that finished off with a bowl win after Mack Brown took over.
It was a fun team that had its ups, downs, and mistakes in too many games, but with this win, Brown is now 14-7 in bowl games, won three of his last four going back to his final days at Texas, and most impressively, with this win he now has 25 winning seasons in his last 26 going back to his 1-10 season at UNC in 1989.
For a Tar Heel program that won just five games over the previous two seasons, this was just about everything that could’ve been asked for out of the first year in Round Two of the Brown coaching era at the school.
To close out with the most points in North Carolina bowl game history in a blowout like this will only boost the attention and expectations even more.
That’s what a bowl game can do – it’s going to be a fun eight months of an offseason.
