4. The bowl mismatches came through big in this one
This North Carolina blowout win over Temple was what Pitt was supposed to do to Eastern Michigan in the Quick Lane and what Miami was expected to do – if it was able to score – against Louisiana Tech in the Independence.
It’s fun for the good Group of Five programs to get their shot at the mediocre Power Five teams, unless this Military Bowl happens.
Cincinnati was able to beat Virginia Tech last year, and the Group of Five was able to get by the Power Fiver in four of the last seven.
But overall, the matchups haven’t worked in the first wave of the bowl season, and that has nothing to do with Gof5 vs. P5 matchups, except for Washington’s blowout win over Boise State in the Las Vegas.
With this game – the last one before we get mostly Power Five vs. Power Five action – nine of the first 12 bowl games were decided by ten points or more, and ten by more than a touchdown.
