4. Brian Lewerke’s big finish
The Spartan quarterback was a massive disappointment as a junior after a terrific sophomore campaign. He threw just eight touchdowns with 11 picks last year, but everything was supposed to be fine this year in a bounce back season.
He wasn’t awful, but he wasn’t consistent, wasn’t accurate, and he threw 16 touchdown passes with 12 picks. However, the team was 3-0 when he threw for 300 yards or more.
He completed 26-of-37 passes for 320 yards and a score with a pick, and ran for 46 yards and a touchdown.
There were a few big connections, and his line gave him plenty of time to work, but this was a fantastic game to close out his career.
