3. The Most Overrated Thing Was …
Ohio State 56, Michigan 27
It’s Ohio State vs. Michigan, so of course it matters, and of course there are some on both sides that would rather win this game than the national championship.
And yeah, but winning by 29 points on the road, Ohio State might have just locked down a spot in the College Football Playoff no matter what happens in the Big Ten championship, but really …
At least this year, the game didn’t really matter in the overall scheme of the world.
Oh sure, if Michigan had won, the narrative would’ve been that Jim Harbaugh got the gorilla off his back, and Ryan Day would be 0-1 against That Team Up North.
And then Ohio State would be off to the Big Ten Championship, followed by an almost certain trip to the College Football Playoff with a better-than-even shot of winning the national title.
But Ohio State won – no shocker there.
Justin Fields and the offense were great – no shocker there.
Michigan played okay after coming into this game on a roll – no shocker there.
Ohio State showed it was more talented and stronger than Michigan, and just about everyone else – no shocker there.
It’s still as big as a rivalry gets – even if it’s one-sided – and it’s always going to be fantastic theater. But unlike last year’s game, this year’s version was able to be quickly memory-dumped – there were too many important college football big things happening throughout the rest of the day.
