What are the most important things to watch for in the next-to-last rankings from the College Football Playoff committee?
5. Where will Oregon be?
How big would a win in the Pac-12 Championship be for Utah?
With Minnesota (8) losing, Baylor (9) will almost certainly move in right behind Oklahoma (7) to set up a monster matchup between 11-1 teams in the Big 12 Championship.
Utah (6) will almost certainly be ahead of the two Big 12ers, but the bar is going to be set higher for that fourth College Football Playoff spot – if it’s open.
Oregon (14) will likely settle in at around 12. Beating the Ducks would still be impressive, but technically, the team that wins the Big 12 title will come up with the stronger win. If Oregon can get up to 11, or even in the top ten, then it’s all a wash – the Utes can just win and likely get in.
However, the Big 12 will know what it has to do.
The Pac-12 Championship is on Friday night, and Utah has to win and win big to put the pressure on. If it’s impressive, then the Oklahoma-Baylor winner will have to be dominant. If Oregon wins, then the Big 12 Championship likely becomes a College Football Playoff quarterfinal showdown.
