What bowl game will Penn State go to?
It’s one of the biggest pieces of the entire bowl puzzle, and not just for the Big Ten.
After the College Football Playoff rankings put the Nittany Lions at 10 – and ahead of Auburn at 11 and Alabama at 12 – that all but sealed them into one of the New Year’s Six games. The committee can change its mind and rework things in the final rankings, but being in the top ten is exactly what Penn State needed.
Best Bowl Scenario For Penn State
Rose Bowl vs. Oregon or Utah. If this all works out perfectly, Ohio State blows out Wisconsin the Big Ten Championship, the Badgers drop down from 8 to around 11, Penn State bumps up a spot or two in the rankings, but that doesn’t matter – it’s going to Pasadena as long as it’s ahead of Wisconsin.
Worst Bowl Scenario For Penn State
Outback Bowl vs, Auburn or Alabama. Even with the ranking ahead of Auburn and Alabama, again, there’s an outside shot that the committee will change up the rankings a bit and the New Year’s Six bowl world just has to have Alabama. More realistically, the worst bowl scenario would be the Cotton Bowl vs. Memphis, Boise State or Appalachian State, which would potentially happen if Wisconsin goes to the Rose Bowl.
And The Bowl Penn State Will Go To Is …
Projection: Rose Bowl vs. Oregon
The call – before the Big Ten an Pac-12 championships are played – is that Utah beats Oregon for the Pac-12 title and ends up in the College Football Playoff, Ohio State blows out Wisconsin or the Big Ten title, and Penn State gets the nod to Pasadena to play the Ducks for the first time since Ki-Jana Carter, Kerry Collins and company won the Rose Bowl 38-20 after the 1994 season.
