2. And now THAT’S over with at Florida State …
Okay, enough of this, Florida State.
2013 wasn’t that long ago.
This is a national championship-level program that needs to start recruiting better, be a whole lot tougher on the lines, and has to get back to making double-digit win seasons the norm.
With this loss to Arizona State, it’s a second straight losing season. When was the last time the program was hit with two straight losing campaigns?
1975 and 1976. Actually, FSU went without a winning season from 1973 to 1976.
Willie Taggart wasn’t given a whole lot of time to work – Scott Frost isn’t doing any better at Nebraska and he was given an extension – but that’s done, and now it’s up to Mike Norvell to not just make FSU good again, but to challenge Clemson for ACC and national titles.
There’s athleticism and talent coming back, and the offensive system under Norvell should bring the excitement, but …
He has never won a bowl game. Taggart didn’t, either.
No excuses now. Taggart got the wheels in motion at Oregon, and it won a Pac-12 title two years later. He started out FSU with a decent base, but the program needed a rebuild.
As the Sun Bowl showed, there’s still a long way to go.
