Georgia Tech (2-6) vs. Virginia (6-3) Game Preview
Why Georgia Tech Will Win
Virginia is grinding.
It’s a good team, and it might just win the Coastal, but it’s not doing anything with ease. It’s battling in a loss to Louisville, it’s battling in a win over North Carolina, it has only wont of its last five games.
This is where Georgia Tech has to battle.
The Yellow Jacket secondary has been solid so far – it’s not amazing, but it’s not getting torched – and the Virginia offense has been almost all Bryce Perkins and more Bryce Perkins. As long Georgia Tech can limit the big plays through the air – it doesn’t give up a whole slew of things deep – the run defense should take care of the rest.
Tech hasn’t allowed more than 200 yards on the ground over the last three games, and Virginia isn’t running the ball well. The Cavs have yet to come up with more than 160 yards against an FBS team.
Why Virginia Will Win
Georgia Tech’s running game just isn’t working.
It ran for over 200 yards against Miami two weeks ago in the win – the only time all year it hit the two-bill mark – and Virginia has only allowed over 200 yards to Louisville. The Cavs cave up three touchdown runs to the Cardinals, four against Notre Dame, and four to everyone else.
Georgia Tech simply doesn’t have a consistent enough overall offense to keep up if Virginia gets going early. The Cavs have the defensive front to get into the backfield and be disruptive throughout the year,
Worst of all for a Yellow Jacket team that has to control the clock and the tempo, it doesn’t do that at all, and Virginia leads the ACC in time of possession. Mostly because Georgia Tech can’t convert on third downs, it’s not able to go on long marches – the Cavs will have the ball for at least 35 minutes.

What’s Going To Happen
Virginia can’t win the Coastal this week, but it can all but lock it down if it wins and Virginia Tech loses to Wake Forest. This might be an inconsistent Cavalier team, but it’s going to be steady enough to hit the three-foot putt.
Georgia Tech’s offense doesn’t have the pop, the offense will seem like it’s never on the field, and the Cavs will get a business-like win without doing anything sensational.
