Florida (7-2) vs. Vanderbilt (2-6) Game Preview
Why Vanderbilt Will Win
Just how down is Florida?
There’s still a whole lot to play for – the Gators can still get to a New Year’s Six bowl, and has to still pray that Georgia gags away games against Missouri and Auburn – but there’s going to be a letdown after the rough loss to the Bulldogs.
Somehow, Vanderbilt has to come out big with the passing game right away. The Gator secondary has terrific talent, but it showed against Jake Fromm that it can be dinked and dunked on a bit. The tackling was a bit lacking, too.
The Commodores are trying to find something that consistently works, but this is the game to let it loose. The pieces are there, but they haven’t always been efficient or explosive. Despite the absence of QB Riley Neal and Mo Hasan, the O has to take its downfield shots early on.
To have any hope, they have to win the turnover battle. The don’t give then all up all that much – the fumbles aren’t there – and Florida has a bit of an issue with giveaways. However …
Why Florida Will Win
The Gator defense is terrific at taking the ball away. It comes from the SEC’s best pass rush that should live in the Vandy backfield, and that should be just enough to bother a passing game that, again, has the parts, but just isn’t clicking.
It be hard to get up for Vanderbilt after losing to Georgia, but this is the game to let the lines eat.
The defensive front shouldn’t have a problem with the leaky Commodore O line, and the offensive line will fire away against a run defense that gives over five yards per game and got hammered for 200 yards or more in three of the last four games.
There’s no reason for Florida to take any chances. Run the ball, take the safe throws, and rely on the defense to keep control of the game throughout. Vanderbilt can only win if the Gators screw up.

What’s Going To Happen
2013 was the last time Vanderbilt won in this series. The last time it won in Gainesville? 1988.
The Gators might be a little bit down, but they’ll roll without any sort of a problem against a Commodore team that simply doesn’t have the cohesiveness or schemes to hold up. Give it a half before the home team wakes up, but it’ll be just fine as the game goes on.
Florida has won 26 of the last 27 in this. Make it 27 of 28.
