Wisconsin (4-0) vs. Kent State (2-2) Game Preview
Why Kent State Will Win
The FlashFast style Kent State likes to use finally busted out. It might have been against Bowling Green, but the passing game was fantastic a few weeks ago thanks to Dustin Crum, who hit 26-of-31 passes for 310 yards and three scores. The offense has to push the ball and test the Wisconsin corners right away.
The Badger secondary is statistically great, but it had a few problems coming up with a late stop against a desperate Northwestern team, and Michigan was able to heave it a wee bit in its blowout loss.
The offense is able to keep the chains moving, it’s strong on third downs, and it doesn’t turn the ball over, but …
Why Wisconsin Will Win
There are 130 FBS college football teams. Kent State is 130th against the run. That’s not a plus going against Wisconsin.
After struggling to bust out against Northwestern, this is when the Badger offensive line and ground game should be able to eat. Auburn rolled for 467 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, and this week Jonathan Taylor should be able to do whatever he wants for a half.
There will be long, long stretches when the Golden Flashes don’t seem like they have the ball. The O moves fast, but time of possession doesn’t matter, keeping the ball for 26 minutes a game.
Wisconsin is second in the nation when it comes to holding the ball, keeping it for almost 37 minutes, but …
What’s Going To Happen
The Badgers will score very, very quickly.
They’ll be able to run whenever and however they want to, but this week, the goal is to get the passing game working again after sputtering and checking down too often against Michigan State. Wisconsin will put this away by halftime.
