Tennessee (3-5) vs. UAB (6-1) Game Preview
Why UAB Will Win
The Blazer defense has been fantastic.
It hasn’t played anyone who isn’t all cupcakey, but still, not allowing more than 20 points seven games into the season is impressive no matter what. The D is phenomenal on third downs, the run defense isn’t allowing a thing, and the pass rush continues to be special.
The Tennessee offense might have finally had some fun in last week’s win over South Carolina, but it hasn’t been anything consistently great to rely on.
The Vol O is still only averaging 355 yards per game, and it can be thrown off-kilter by a slight breeze. This week, it’ll have a big, big problem with a relentless Blazer defensive front and the pressure that will be there from the start.
The UAB offense is balanced, the passing game has hit 260 yards or more in five of the last six games, and there might be a letdown effect for Tennessee after the big win over South Carolina. However …
Why Tennessee Will Win
UAB has beaten NOBODY.
The stats are incredible and the 6-1 record is fantastic, but the best win so far is … at UTSA?
Out of those six wins, UTSA is the only one with a victory over an FBS team, and its wins are over UTEP and Rice. Rice is winless, and UTEP hasn’t beaten an FBS team.
The Blazers have a massive interception problem. Tyler Johnston is a solid passer, but he has also given away ten picks so far with four in the lone loss of the year to WKU.
Tennessee is decent at taking the ball away, and it has just enough of a pass rush to force a few rushed throws. Offensively, the Vols are coming off a great game from Jarrett Guarantano – 229 yards and two scores against South Carolina – and the running game should give UAB its first push of the season.

What’s Going To Happen
UAB will bring a great effort and keep it way too close, but Tennessee’s offense will get moving in the second half just enough to avoid the the big whiff upset. Just when this starts to look like the Georgia State or BYU games, Tennessee will get a big defensive stop.
