Oregon State (3-4) vs. Arizona (4-4) Game Preview
Why Oregon State Will Win
Arizona is a very, very warm mess.
It’s changing defensive coordinators, it’s trying to figure out its quarterback situation, and it’s letting a once-promising season slip away with a three-game losing streak thanks to that defense that has fallen off map.
Oregon State has just the offense to take advantage of the issues.
The Beavers are outstanding on third downs, they don’t turn the ball over – just two giveaways all season long – and they have just enough offensive balance to relentlessly keep everything moving against a D with no pass rush whatsoever.
The secondary is getting hit for 310 passing yards per game, the defense is giving up first downs by the bucketload, and best off all for OSU, the entire team is rested after getting two weeks off.
Arizona has played six straight weeks and gets a week off after this.
Why Arizona Will Win
Do you believe in patterns?
Oregon State has followed up each win with a loss over the last five games – it’s due for a loss.
There might be a slew of issues with the Wildcats, but the offense should be able to roll with the two quarterbacks in a rotation against a Beaver defense that doesn’t pick off passes can get ripped up against the run.
Grant Gunnell his all seven of his throws with a touchdown pass in the loss to Stanford, Khalil Tate – for all of his inconsistencies – still ran for over 100 yards last week. and the O continues to be terrific on the ground and ranked second overall in the Pac-12.
Defensively, coordinator Marcel Yates is gone and Chuck Cecil is in. Even the slightest tweak, change in energy, more dedication to the pass rush, anything, should and could be just enough to change things around.
The offense will do its part. Now the defense has to come up with just a few stops to hold serve …

What’s Going To Happen
And it will.
Arizona might be underwhelming and it might be inconsistent, but it also has too much firepower for the Oregon State defense. The Beavers were able to beat the teams with questionable offensive capabilities – Cal and UCLA – but got ripped up by Oklahoma State early on.
Expect lots of big dashes from the Wildcats and a whole slew of big plays on both sides in a wild shootout.
