Ohio State (6-0) vs. Northwestern (1-4) Game Preview
Why Northwestern Will Win
For all of the problems and all of the issues, the defense hasn’t been all that bad. If there’s one defense that has the potential to keep the Buckeyes from hitting their normal array of home runs, it’s this one.
The offense is an issue, and forget about it if the Wildcats have to keep up any sort of scoring pace with these Buckeyes, but they can drag teams down to their own level.
Wisconsin was crushing and killing in Madison, but it wasn’t able to pull away. Northwestern at least made it interesting against the sharpest team in college football in the first half – losing 24-15 – with a good secondary and the overall ability to not break, even though it’ll bend a whole lot.
Why Ohio State Will Win
Northwestern has no earthly prayer of being able to score with this team.
It might have the ability and potential to keep this from becoming a total wipeout, and it might be plucky enough to battle for a full four quarters, but Ohio State can end this in two plays.
For all the pyrotechnics on the Ohio State offense, the defense has been every bit as good on the defensive side. Chase Young and the pass rush are too strong for the Northwestern offensive line, the defense is amazing when opponents get a shot late in drives, and they’re destroying everyone’s running game.
Northwestern is second-to-last in the nation in yards per completion and dead last in passing efficiency. The Buckeye defense won’t worry a lick about anything going deep, and it’ll be deadly on short-to-midrange throws.

What’s Going To Happen
Northwestern will be Northwestern just enough to keep this from getting out of hand for a half, and then the Ohio State running game will go off for two big runs to break the game open.
There won’t be any drama as the Buckeyes will dominate midway though the second half to make this a show for the offense. Including last year’s Big Ten Championship, Ohio State will make it eight in a row in the series.
