Missouri (3-1) vs. Troy (2-2) Game Preview

Why Troy Will Win

The passing game is working.

The transition from Neal Brown to Chip Lindsey is going along just fine, with the Trojan attack taking things up a few notches with veteran QB Kaleb Barker going off.

He missed a few too many throws in the loss to Arkansas State, but he also bombed away for 367 yards and four scores. The offense is great at moving the chains, it’s able to push the ball down the field, and it has just enough of a running game to keep defenses honest.

The Trojans don’t beat themselves, they don’t get hit with a slew of penalties, and they’ve only lost the ball four times so far. But …

Why Missouri Will Win

The Troy pass defense is a polite rumor.

It wasn’t even close to slowing down Southern Miss in the 47-42 loss. it got hit for over 500 yards through the air – and last week it gave up 455 yards and four scores to a backup QB in the ASU loss.

Kelly Bryant has been a bit too erratic, but he’s doing a good enough job overall for a balanced Mizzou attack that should be able to rumble at will against the beleaguered Troy secondary.

On the other side, Missouri’s pass defense has been sensational – and not just because it played Wyoming and SE Missouri State.

It held South Carolina’s Ryan Hilinski in check, and it all but shut down the West Virginia offense to a dead stop. So far this year the Tigers have allowed just two touchdown passes, are allowing quarterbacks to hit just 45% of their passes, and are fantastic on third downs.

What’s Going To Happen

The rested Tigers will get a wee bit of a push from a talented and dangerous Troy attack, but they’ll get their own offense rolling and won’t stop. The Trojans won’t be able to run well enough against a Mizzou D that’ll turn into a brick wall in the second half.
