Missouri (4-1) vs. Ole Miss (3-2) Game Preview
Why Ole Miss Will Win
Just how healthy is Kelly Bryant?
Missouri lost heart-and-soul LB Cale Garrett to a torn pectoral tendon, and it almost had to replace its starting quarterback after Bryant went down with a scary-looking knee injury in the win over Troy. He’ll play, but again, just how healthy is he going to be and just how effective will he be?
The Ole Miss offense has picked it up a little bit, but the defense was the star in a 31-6 win over Vanderbilt. The Rebels haven’t been great defensively over the course of the season, but they’re getting into the backfield on a regular basis. They’re going to be able to get to Bryant if he’s not his normal, mobile self.
Offensively, the Rebels found something with John Rhys Plumlee. He didn’t set the world on fire against Alabama or Vanderbilt through the air, but he ran for over 100 yards against the Tide and ripped up the Commodores for 165 yards and a touchdown.
Without Garrett, is the Mizzou defense the same against the dangerous running team?
Why Missouri Will Win
Yea. Garrett was great, but the Tiger run defense has been a rock so far. and the secondary has been fantastic – it’s second in the nation in pass defense behind Wisconsin.
No, the Tigers haven’t played anyone who’s all that great, but they haven’t allowed more than 14 points – and 31 points overall – in the last four games.
On the other side, the Ole Miss defense is having a whole slew of issues.
The Vanderbilt game was a nice moment, and the run defense overall has been okay, but that’s sort of because everyone’s been throwing the ball without a problem.
The Tigers should be able to grind it out a bit to take the pressure off of Bryant, but they mostly need to hit their short-range passes, keep things moving, and then rely on the D to do its job.

What’s Going To Happen
Expect an inspired, ticked off Missouri team that comes out solid against the Rebels. Bryant isn’t going to be perfect, but the running game will take over, and the defense will be cranked up to produce with Garrett gone. Ole Miss won’t have the passing game to overcome a sluggish day from the ground game.
