Florida State (4-4) vs. Miami (4-4) Game Preview
Why Florida State Will Win
Which Miami team is going to show up?
The Hurricanes have altered between wins and losses over the last five weeks, and now if the pattern holds, they’re on pace to lose.
The offense isn’t doing much of anything, the offensive line is getting completely trashed, and there’s not enough of a running game to matter.
The biggest problem? Besides the line not slowing down anyone’s pass rush, the Cane O can’t convert a third down. Even with N’Kosi Perry taking over, the attack just doesn’t move. It’s only converting 28% of third down tries, and hitting 20% or fewer four times this year.
The Florida State offense isn’t exactly lighting thins up, but it’s getting a big better. Alex Hornibrook came up with a decent day against Syracuse, and Cam Akers is having a terrific season, with over 300 yards in his last two games and four touchdown runs against Syracuse. However …
Why Miami Will Win
The Miami run defense continues to be a rock. It gave up over 200 yards in the stunning loss to Georgia Tech, but that’s the only time this year it has given up two bills.
The pass rush is still impressive, the plays in the backfield are coming in on a regular basis, and the D as a whole is only allowing 301 yards per game.
No, the Florida State offense isn’t rocking and rolling. It’s been better, and Akers is great, but it’s not so nasty that it can run away and hide with this.
The Noles don’t do a thing when it comes to controlling the clock, the secondary continues to get torched – one bad Syracuse performance aside – and the O line doesn’t do a thing to keep good pass rushing teams out of the backfield.
Miami’s defensive front will live in the Seminole backfield.

What’s Going To Happen
There was a time when this game ruled the world. Now it’s just a nice matchup between two teams desperately looking to stay bowl eligible.
Be shocked if this isn’t offensively-challenged.
Both teams will be equally inept offensively, equally solid defensively, and it should all make for an entertaining game full of intensity to the nth degree.
This is the season-maker for each side and for these two massively disappointing coaching staffs. At home, Florida State is going to win in a fourth quarter of attrition. The Noles will have chances to put it away, the Canes will have chances to take over, and neither one will be able to do it.
