LSU (4-0) vs. Utah State (3-1) Game Preview
Why Utah State Will Win
Jordan Love is amazing, and the LSU secondary can be thrown on.
He’s not going to be up there with the Tagovailoas and Herberts of the world, but don’t be stunned if the 6-4, 225-pounder turns into one of the hidden gems of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He’s coming off a rough game against Colorado State, but he’s been a big-game performer before – he hit Wake Forest for 416 yards in the season opener and almost took down Michigan State last season – and now he’s getting his shot to bomb away. The Tiger secondary is phenomenally talented, but it’s allowed almost 900 yards over the last three games.
The Aggie O gets the ball out of Love’s hands in a hurry, and it moves and strikes quickly. Love and company can keep up.
Why LSU Will Win
Is San Diego State is throwing for close to 300 yards on you, your pass defense has a problem.
The Utah State secondary is okay, and it’s only allowing teams to connect on 56% of their passes, but it got picked clean by Wake Forest’s Jamie Newman, and it’s about to get hit hard by Joe Burrow and the rested Tigers.
Burrow is taking target practice, connecting on just over 80% of his passes for 1,520 yards and 17 scores in four games. His receivers are making big things happen down the field, the line is doing a good enough job, and there’s just enough of a running game to make it all click.
This is a slightly-flawed Tiger team. It hasn’t been taking the ball away enough, it doesn’t control the clock, and the line allows a few too many plays behind the line.
It doesn’t matter when you’re bludgeoning teams with a nation-leading 58 points per game.
What’s Going To Happen
Get ready for a firefight.
It’s not going to be Texas-LSU, but Love and company will do their part to make this interesting enough to make the Tiger faithful sweat a wee bit.
Burrow and the LSU offense will turn it over a few times, and there might be just a wee bit of a lookahead to Florida, but just when things start to get interesting, that’s when the explosion will hit.
