Louisville (3-2) vs. Wake Forest (5-0) Game Preview

Why Louisville Will Win

The quarterback combination worked.

The Cardinals are cranking up the passing stats, but there’s almost nothing consistent about the accuracy they’re getting out of the quarterbacks, but the touchdown passes and overall production is there.

Micale Cunningham – formerly Malik Cunningham – has thrown for over 280 yards two games in a row with a whole lot of big plays, but he struggled with his accuracy against Florida State and was sharper in the win over Boston College. The coaching staff also go freshman Evan Conley into the mix against the Eagles, and he came through with 140 yards and a touchdown.

Against a Wake Forest pass defense that isn’t making whole lot of big plays and gives up 246 yards per game, the Cardinals should be able to keep up.

The UofL passing game is starting to click, and the running game continues to be among the best in the ACC with 200 yards or more in four of the five games, but …

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Cardinal offensive line is giving up too many plays behind the line. Wake Forest has an okay pass rush, but not an amazing one. Against the Cardinals, though, it should all work just enough to hold up on third downs.

The Demon Deacons are making up for the defensive deficiencies by stopping third down after third down, leading the ACC allowing opponents to convert just 26% of their chances. In what should be a bit of a shootout, just a stop or two should be enough to let the Wake Forest offense take over.

Jamie Newman continues to be fantastic. He’s hitting 70% of his passes with 14 touchdown passes and just three picks, showing off the experience and accuracy to keep the attack moving. His worth, though, is in his ability to lead the Demon Deacon offense when it needs a score to keep control of games. The O keeps on coming, and it’s been able to come through to win three close games.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a whole lot of fun.

The two offenses will go off, the Louisville attack will come up with enough balance and enough pop to keep up, but Wake Forest and Newman will once again come up with a big performance in a tight game.

Expect a whole lot of big plays, good scoring drives, and expect just enough of a pass rush from Wake Forest to hold on late.
